Child Sexual Abuse Images
(child pornography)

Difinition
Child sexual abuse images (also known as child pornography) includes photos, videos or sound recordings of a person under 18 years of age who is wearing no clothing (or very little clothing), or having sex.
When the images are drawn or created on a computer, it is known as simulated or virtual sexual abuse imagery/child pornography. That means that the child in the image is not a real child, but created from someone's imagination.
Legal
Possession of child pornography (photos, films and audio) is illegal in Japan.
Simulated/virtual child pornography is still legal in Japan.
Relationship between child sexual abuse images and child trafficking
Child pornography is normally produced with the intention of selling or distributing it to other users. This record of the child's sexual abuse is therefore used as a product that is exchanged for money or other items of value. This is child trafficking.
In the rare instances where the images are not sold or distributed online, the psychological harm and shame of being violated and knowing that the images cannot be easily removed, could make the child even more vulnerable to be exploited through prostitution.
